Free Online PC Games : ArmA 2: Free

I DEFINITELY need to spread a little love to that other FPS that went free to play last week.

The ArmA series has been a cult hit with PC games. Named the '13th best PC game of all time’ by PC Gamer Magazine, ArmA is the spiritual successor to Operation Flashpoint and depicts realistic modern combat. And I do mean realistic. This is not another Call of Honor where people run 30mph and shotgun each other in the face. ArmA is a game that requires tactics, patience, and, most importantly, cover.

ArmA 2: Free is also unique in its free-2-play business model. It really is free! No optional subscriptions, micro transactions, or in-game currency purchases. A credit card isn’t even required. This is the full multiplayer suite, complete with scenario editor(!), ripped from the original retail release of ArmA 2.

How do they make money? Well, the game eschews a few features to keep the download size small. The free version does not include the retail release’s highest graphics settings, mod support, or single player. Want those? Go buy the retail version! Easy breezy.

  1. YEAH, TALK ABOUT REALISTIC. WOWZERS. UNFORTUNATELY SO REALISTIC I HAD VERY LITTLE UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT WAS GOING ON. THERE'S A MUCH STEEPER LEARNING CURVE ON THIS ONE BUT I SUPPOSE THAT'S TO BE EXPECTED.

BTW... MINECRAFT JUST UPDATED TO VER 1.7 APPARENTLY WHEN I HIT UPDATE IT WOULDN'T LET ME CONNECT TO YOUR SERVER BECAUSE OF YOUR OUTDATED SERVER. SHEESH. NEXT TIME I WON'T UPDATE UNTIL I GET THE OK. SORRY, DON'T MEAN TO BE A BOTHER.

Let me know about this any time. It is very, very easy to fix and I don't always have time to think of it.

Things are depressing as hell with all the baby stuff right now :(

  3. I haven't had a chance to try ArmA, but I remember the effort I put into learning OpFlash back in the day. PC Gamer has a TON of ArmA stuff and a big multiplayer group if you get into it.
