Minecraft: 10 Million Strong and Growing

javaw 2011-07-05 08-41-26-11World of Notch, personal blog of Minecraft’s creator Markus “Notch” Persson, is reporting that Minecraft now has 10 million registered users.

Ten. Million.

A PC game created by one man with no advertising budget that, technically, has not been released yet now stands toe-to-toe with the World of Warcraft subscriber base (11.4 million).

Growing Up Otaku’s own Minecraft server is humming along nicely. Thanks to an earlier server glitch, you can even do the impossible: Build a sand castle in the snow!

  1. HEH, IT'S THE ICE THAT HOLDS THE WET SAND TOGETHER SO WELL!

I'M NOT SURE, HAS THE CAVE SYSTEM EXPANDED? IT SEEMS LARGER NOW.

GO MINECRAFT! I THINK THAT PEOPLE REALLY LIKE THE ABILITY TO MAKE AND RE-MAKE THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENT. WAS CHECKING OUT TIME-LAPSE MINECRAFTING THE OTHER DAY... 10 MILLION PEOPLE, GOTTA BE SOMETHING THERE.

  2. I find it cool (no pun intended) to have it snow in the desert. That's not supposed to happen :)

I haven't really gotten around much to see the caves. Usually I have just enough time to wander around and gawk at the world you've built before I need to go do something else. It is possible that there is new map-making code in the latest patch that would affect an new chunks explored. Sounds good tho. We were kinda short on caves.
