South Korea Building Robot Prison Guards

korea-prison-robot-2Singularity Hub is reporting that the South Korean government will be adding a trio of mechanical men to the staff of a prison in Pohang. The five-foot tall, four wheeled automatons will be tasked with rolling through cell blocks at night to scan for suspicions activity and check prisoners for obvious signs of injury. Should anything appear amiss, the robots will send alerts to human prison guards to deal with the situation as needed.

The project has an estimated cost of 1 billion won (~$886,000 USD) and will begin with a month long trial in March of 2013.

Here at GUO, we have great results using a similar method to keep our writers in line.
