In the wake of the holiday hack of Target stores, the company is footing the bill for a year’s worth of credit monitoring and identity protection. Honestly, I’m not familiar with the effectiveness of these programs versus the inherent risk of dumping of all your personal information into someone else’s database. Might be a good idea or it might be a placebo. Of course if you were already affected by the Target breach (or any of the many others in the past couple years), your identity may already be out there doing unspeakable things without you anyway. Do your research, read the fine print, and be sure to check out Target’s own FAQ on this program.
