Madoka Magica Coming to US via Aniplex

Madoka has been a runaway hit in Japan! With Blu-Rays are flying off the shelf it was just a matter of time before a US distributor picked this one up. The winner was announced at AX 2011 as the US arm of Aniplex. While the show’s popularity still has not rolled across the ocean yet, primarily because there has not been a legal avenue to view it, this is gonna be big in some circles. How big? Let me just say this: Puella Magi Madoka Magica is to magical girl shows as Evangelion is to mecha anime.

Except the name sucks. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica was so much better. Of course, an even better name would be Magic Girl Madoka! Duh! Whatever. At least the show makes sense at the end, unlike Evangelion.

No details or timeframe has yet been announced, but www.madokamagicausa.com is up with the following image:
Madoka Magina
It is a testament to both the concept and execution of Madoka Magica that I find the above image horrifying beyond reason.

*Update* The site is now open for business featuring character art, a news ticker, and promises of more content.

  1. HMMM, I'M THINKING I'M ALREADY ENOUGH OF A MAGICAL GIRL AND DON'T NEED TO INCREASE THAT ATTRIBUTE. AHH WELL, IF YOU THINK IT'S GOOD I'LL GIVE IT A SHOT - BUT I'M NOT SIGNING ANY CONTRACT TO THAT EFFECT.

  2. I gotta admit, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this one. I think that it has enough style and twists to keep your interest. Alas, it's gonna be about a year before the dubbed version is available.

Still, Durarara!!, the anime I spent last year raving about is available now.
